Highlights from Our Projects

On 12-13 of February in Armenia took place a forum “Citizens for Peace” with participants from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The coordinator of the forum wasRasim Mirzayev with the support of the “German cultural and scientific association EuroKaukAsia” and “Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt)”.

During the 2 days forum have been discussed the possible ways of peacebuilding in the Region, youth participation in processes and youth cooperation.The host of the forum Sevak Kirakosyan asked all the participants to write down why shall this kind of event be continuous. Participants mentioned that “Without communication, we will always think bad about each other, while communication can be surprisingly different like it was during these two days”, “Except problems in our countries, we have mutual problems in the region that we can solve together which will give a solution for each country’s problems as well”, “We need peace in a region to have a progress”.

An international conference dedicated to the literary heritage of the peoples of the South Caucasus has been arranged in Tbilisi. The event has also addressed the issue of the influence of literature on the peaceful coexistence of different peoples, on the process of establishing peace in the region, and positive images of neighbours in the literature of the peoples of the South Caucasus. The theme of the conference was: “Not eternal enemies, but?…”.

– Your organization has been implementing various peacekeeping projects in the Caucasus for many years. How did the idea for the current project come about and who is funding it?

– First, about our sponsors – this is the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This time we received funds from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Stiftung EVZ (the name of the Foundation stands for “Memories, Responsibility, Future”). The Foundation implements the “Meet! Youth for Partnership!” program, within the framework of which we held our quadrilateral (Armenian-Azerbaijanian-German-Georgian) meeting in Tbilisi.

Rasim Mirzaev: Our goal is to unite all peacebuilding forces in the Caucasus

Peace and peacekeeping in the South Caucasus, new peacekeeping projects and reconciliation of peoples in the region – Rasim Mirzaev, executive director of the scientific and cultural Center EuroCaucasus (Germany), talks about this and much more in an exclusive interview with newcaucasus.com

Since last year, you have been intensively holding meetings with peace supporters in the South Caucasus, and announced the creation of a Dialogue Forum in the name of peace in the Caucasus. Tell us about this project, about your organization, how successful things are with the implementation of your idea.

– Our German organization – the scientific and cultural Center EuroCaucasia (in the original EuroKaukAsia e.V.) – has existed since 2005. The head of the Center is a well-known Caucasus scholar in Germany, Professor Eva-Maria Auch, and I am its executive director.
